The Nortech PD234 solves a common problem — how to detect vehicles reliably and trigger gates, barriers, or counting systems without expensive sensors or complex installations. By connecting a buried inductive loop under the driveway to PD234, the detector automatically senses metal‑vehicle presence as soon as a car enters the loop area. That detection signal then activates output relays that can open a gate, lift a boom barrier, trigger a parking control system, or count vehicle entries/exits.

Thanks to automatic self‑tuning (for loop inductance 20–1000 µH) and selectable sensitivity, PD234 adapts to different loop shapes and vehicle types — from small cars to heavier vans or trucks. The detector also offers selectable “permanent presence” mode, which keeps the output active until the vehicle leaves — preventing premature gate closure under the car. Its dual‑channel design enables detection from two loops (or support for direction logic), which is useful when you want to detect entry and exit, or avoid interference between loops.

Compared to older magnetic‑loop or pressure‑pad detectors, PD234 is compact (DIN‑rail mountable), energy‑efficient, and provides built‑in loop isolation and surge protection — increasing reliability in real-world parking or gate‑control installations.
